Amazing player who I have been told has raised his game even higher over the last few years.
I think he was taught by Bill Drummond who is supposed to be another monster (what is it with Australian and German drummers...)

Yes, fairly normal. The starting point drumset. From there you can add some accesories. [img]biggrin.gif[/img]
It seems funny that if any drummer ever does anything else people here seem down on them.
I love Vinnie and Weckl and Hass and Carlock etc but it's not the only way you can play drums. I really appreciate some of the things people like Grant Collins (and Marco, Virg and Thomas etc) have pioneered.
it has made me think about the drums differently.
Guys like Benny Greb are combining these ideas with groove and latin concepts and I think it's really exciting.
It's not healthy for anyone or music to be so down on other drummers! maybe I'm rubbish to because I have been known to play a big kit.

The thing is that the Weckl, Vinnie, Hass, etc are well known of course for beeing some incredible drummer, but the main thing is that they are well know for beeing some great MUSICIANS !!! They use their incredible skills in a musical context, we can buy CD's and to listen them in many differents music situation.
I think that they are or try to be more in the music industry than in the drum industry, I hope that you see what I mean.

I suppose my point is that when you start talking negatively about musicians it can create a negative outlook on music. This can close the mind to new things which is always a danger the older we get.
I started doing clinics here in the UK in 2000 and I made a bit of a name for myself and then I was booked to do a clinic with Marco M.
When I saw him soundcheck I was truly shocked (I had never heard him before, no one had back then) My first impulse was to try and criticise him (theres no groove, it's boring, the audience doesn't get it)but I realised he had pushed me outside my comfort zone. He was so humble and had nothing but praise for me. I realised then and accepted he is truly one of the worlds great players.
I have played loads of times with Thomas Lang too.
He is also very humble and always open to share ideas. I've jammed with him a lot and all I can say is on every level he is a very, very good drummer!!! (understatement)
Recently I told him how I hated playing in front of him as I felt he is looking at all my bad habits and weaknesses. He said 'No, I'm interested to see how YOU use these ideas. I'm interested your approach' He is one hell of a guy and musician.
When they get bashed here it always saddens me...they are such great musicians, the masters of our times

Hello Andy, I hope nobody has taken my words as an insult to Grant Collins. PLEASE DON?T !!
The only thing I said, after seeing and listen all the video samples in his website, is that the most remarkable thing about him was: Very fast feet (my opinion of course)
I know that behind his playing there is a very hard work, a great attitude and more...and I always respect this.
Said this, I think nobody tried to insult this drummer.
Also, when I listen to a drummer-musician-song I never compare to anything. I just like it or not, or enjoy me or not, or makes me feel good or not...
And with Lang, Mineman, and others of that style I always think on the hard work they have done, but when I listen to their playing, I just don?t like it. Nothing wrong about their personalities, attitude, and other personal aspects.
Just my opinion.
